Surface Area Of Sphere

Difference between Sphere and Circle Surface Area of Sphere

What is the surface area of sphere ?
Suppose we have a sphere shaped object like as mentioned in the below diagram

So all area around the circumference is the surface area of ball and the formula to find its surface area is -

Surface Area of Sphere = 4 x Π x Radius2

Let's try some examples to find the surface area of sphere -

Example : 1 - The radius of a ball is 10cm. Find the surface area of ball
Solution : Given things are
Radius = 10cm
Value of Π 3.142

Surface Area of Sphere = 4 x Π x Radius2
Surface area of Sphere = 4 x 3.142 x 102
Surface area of Sphere = 12.568 x 100
Surface area of Sphere = 1256.8cm

Example : 2 - The radius of a ball is 25cm. Find the surface area of ball
Solution : Given things are
Radius = 25cm
Value of Π 3.142

Surface Area of Sphere = 4 x Π x Radius2
Surface area of Sphere = 4 x 3.142 x 252
Surface area of Sphere = 12.568 X 625
Surface area of Sphere = 7855cm

Example : 3 - Find the surface area of football which has a radius of 50cm
Solution : Given things are
Radius = 50cm
Value of Π 3.142

Surface Area of Sphere = 4 x Π x Radius2
Surface area of Sphere = 4 x 3.142 x 502
Surface area of Sphere = 12.568 x 2500
Surface area of Sphere = 31420cm

Example : 4 - Find the radius and diameter of sphere shaped balloon which has a surface area of 31420cm
Solution : Given things are
Surface Area = 31420cm
Value of Π 3.142

First we will find the radius of sphere shaped balloon

Radius = 1/2 x √ Surface Area / Π
Radius = 1/2 x √ 31420 / 3.142
Radius = 1/2 x √ 10000
Radius = 1/2 x 100
Radius = 50cm

Now we will find the diameter of balloon. As we know that diameter is twice of radius so the steps to find diameter are
Diameter = 2 x Radius
Diameter = 2 x 50
Diameter = 100cm
