Percentage Increase

Percentage to Fraction Percentage to Decimal Percentage Increase Percentage Decrease

In real time, many times when we compare the two quantities, we notice that one quantity is greater than the other quantity. In such cases we also want to know increase in percentage.

So formula to find the Percentage Increase is :

Percentage Increase = (Increase in Value / Base Value ) X 100

Let's study some examples to find increase in percentage

Example 1 : A student score 60 marks in maths in 1st semester and 75 marks in semester. Find percentage improvement of the student
Solution : Given things are
Marks scored in 1st semester : 60
Marks scored in 2nd semester : 75

Now we will find the improvement in marks
Improvement in marks = 2nd semester marks - 1st semester marks
Improvement in marks = 75 - 60
Improvement in marks = 15

Now we will apply the formula of percentage increase and we get :

Percentage Increase = (Increase in Value / Base Value ) X 100
Percentage Increase = (Improvement in marks / 1st semester marks) X 100
Percentage Increase = (15 / 60 ) X 100
Percentage Increase = 0.25 X 100
Percentage Increase = 25%

Example 2 : Mobile sales in Feb & March are 200 * 225 respectively. Find percentage increase in sales
Solution : Given things are :
Feb sales = 200
March sales = 225

Now we will find the increase in sales
Increase in sales = March sales - Feb sales
Increase in sales = 225 - 200
Increase in sales = 25

Now we will apply the formula of percentage increase and we get :

Percentage Increase = (Increase in Value / Base Value ) X 100
Percentage Increase = (Increase in Sales / Feb Sales ) X 100
Percentage Increase = (25 / 200) X 100
Percentage Increase = 0.125 X 100
Percentage Increase = 12.5%
