Find Equivalent Rational Numbers by Multiplication & Division Method

Equivalent Rational Numbers Positive Rational Numbers Negative Rational Numbers Rational Numbers in Standard Form Compare Rational Numbers
Addition of Rational Numbers Addition of Rational & Natural Number Addition of Rational Number & Integer Subtraction of Rational Numbers Subtraction of Rational Number & Integer
Multiplication of Rational Numbers Multiplication of Rational & Natural Number Multiplication of Rational Number & Integer Reciprocal of a Rational Number Division of Rational Numbers

There are two ways of finding Equivalent Rational Numbers:

  • Find Equivalent Rational Number by Multiplication Method:

By multiplying both numerator and denomination of rational numbers with same integer (non-zero); we can obtain its equivalent rational number

Example 1 : Find equivalent rational number to 4/-5 by Multiplication Method

To find equivalent rational number, we multiply both denominator and numerator of the given rational number with 2 and we get:

    4 X 2 / -5 X 2
    = 8 / -10

Hence 8/-10 is is the equivalent fraction of 4/-5

  • Find Equivalent Rational Number by Division Method:

By dividing both numerator and denomination of rational numbers by same integer (other than zero); we can obtain its equivalent rational number (Divisor is to be selected in a way that it completely divides both numerator and denominator; without leaving any remainder.)

Example 2 : Find equivalent rational number to -18 / -54 by Division Method

To find equivalent rational number, we divide both denominator and numerator of the given rational number by 9 and we get:

    (-18 / 9 ) / (-54 / 9)
    -2 / -6

    Hence, -2 / -6 is the equivalent fraction of -18 / -54
