Discount Percentage (%)

Discount Percentage

Before you study about Discount Percentage, you are advice to read:

What is Selling Price or SP and what is Marked Price ?
What is Discount ?

Discount Percentage formula:
Discount % = (Discount / Marked Price) X 100

Example : Shirt whose marked price is $20 is sold at $18. Find the discount and discount%
Solution: As per the given question:

Marked Price = $ 20
Selling Price = $ 18

First find discount and then we will find Discount %

Discount = Marked Price - Selling Prince

Put values of marked price and selling price from above and we get:
Discount = $20 - $18
Discount = $2

Hence, shirt is sold at a discount of $2.

Now, apply formula of Discount %:
Discount % = (Discount / Marked Price) X 100

Put values of marked price and discount from above and we get:
Discount % = (2 / 20) X 100
Discount % = 0.10 X 100
Discount % = 10%
